My new favorite go-to spot for IVs has been the upper foot. Something satisfying about a patient with no veins (from illness or IV drug user) and sliding the puppy in. Obviously we don't use it all the time but when it works, oh, yeah, it's awesome.
I stink at IVs anyways but wow I have never tried to start one in the foot. I work on a CHF floor and those pt have terrible veins but I might consider the upper foot if I have too hehe!
I'm Elaine. After some soul searching and doing an MSc, I switched gears and completed a BSc in Nursing and am working as an Emergency Nurse.
This blog started at the end of nursing school, and has followed my life ever since.
Any patient story depicted in this blog is not a real person, but a mixture of the many I see daily as a nurse.

Yes. Just ask for an order, though, if needed, especially on diabetics.
